Huawei E800 on Debian Etch
I just got an Internet flatrate with the Huawei E800 express-slot USB modem from the German provider eplus. It worked out of the box under Windows XP.
However, some work was needed to get it running on Debian Etch because the device first registers as a USB drive and the modem functionality thus gets shadowed.
Thanks to this site it now works on Debian too, although it needs to be plugged prior to startup.
I'll be working on the issue.
